I suggest using a staff since they add mana buffs and hunters DO NOT need to melee at all in pve. But yes, they can dual wield and one handed weapon.

Dual Weild:
Advantages:
It can create a more constant damage per second.
It ideal against casters because everytime a caster gets hit while casting, it interupts them and dual weild hits less each blow than a Two Hander but more times a minute.
Disadvantages:
The off hand is prone to missing the target resulting a lower damage per second than is expected.
